I love my job. I love making quiz shows, developing new format ideas and writing challenging and entertaining questions for viewers at home. Yet in this current TV market I and a lot of my colleagues keep getting overlooked for roles in other areas e.g. fact ents, documentaries etc. I have a double masters in law and journalism, my quiz research covers nearly every academic subject under the sun from basic to advanced level. We quiz writers are the Swiss Army knives of researchers yet we’re constantly sidelined for roles we would be perfect for because we “just do game shows”. For a creative industry it’s not very creative when it comes to looking at other aspects of our talents.
