Back from the subantarctic after a five month shoot. It's been a whirlwind of experiences and emotions! A month to get to the Crozet archipelago and back, four full months of filming all the wildlife there including King Penguins, Elephant seals, Giant Petrels, Skuas, Wandering Albatrosses, Crozet and Kerguelen Fur seals, Sheathbills, and Orca.

We got the chance to fly drones in the area which is a pretty rare opportunity due to tight restrictions so were able to film some spots which had never been photographed in that way, we spent days in the King Penguin colony closest to the base which helped us get to know the animals on an intimate level, multi-day treks across the island were a recurring privilege (the cabins were fantastic spots to stay in for a few days) but what really got me on this shoot were the wildlife encounters and the people I met working on location.

The island is a base for scientists studying anything from sleep patterns to diving capacities to growth rates and the effect of climate change on the animal populations which are dependant upon these islands dotted around the sub-antarctic.

Everyone lucky enough to work there wouldn't get far without the people running and maintaining the infrastructure on location though so a big thank you to the cooks, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, welders and paper people for making everything tick!
