With it being early into the new year I wanted share the experiences and skills I gained from 2023, as it was my second year of working in TV. With it being early into the new year I wanted share the experiences and skills I gained from 2023, as it was my second year of working in TV. Throughout 2023 I loved working on documentary, fast-turnaround and live productions for Channel 5 and ITV such as Renegade Pictures’ ‘Beyond the Yorkshire Farm: Reuben & Clive’, ITV’s live broadcast of the King’s Coronation and Daisybeck Studios’ ‘Isle of Wight: Jewel of the South S1’, ‘Jersey & Guernsey’, ‘Isle of Wight: Jewel of the South S2’, ‘Shetland’ and ‘Fletchers’ Family Farm At Christmas’.

Whilst working on location for the majority of the year, in small teams with new stories and contributors every day, I learnt how important it is as a researcher to not only develop my location skills but also, alongside this, gain and develop experience in other research areas such as casting, archive and shooting, in order to help me develop a wider range of skills. On different productions I enjoyed researching potential stories and organising and conducting calls with potential contributors, as well as pitching stories ideas and writing biogs. I enjoyed developing my archive experience by working with contributors to find and collect their photographic materials and independently, on one production, going to a museum and selecting historic photos to be used for the edit as well as helping with historical facts. Also, I loved building my confidence and developing my experience in shooting second camera as well as GVs on the Sony FS7, operating a gimbal using the A7SIII and FX3, taking publicity stills on my Sony A7III and working as a drone operator, completing daily risk assessments and flight plans.

I look forward to further progressing my TV experience and growing my skills throughout 2024 and would like to thank those who have been so very helpful in giving me advice.
