LIVE MUSIC PRODUCTION with Ibiza Producer

Nothing quite hits like covering a live music performance!

I've talked quite openly here about not only loving the variety of productions I work on but being proud to do each well.

I do believe you can have a niche or you can have a slate, and today's post is about the joys of production of small live events as part of my slate.

I've had the privilege to work at some huge events globally, from Glastonbury to MDL Beast in Saudia Arabia... but the smaller gigs hit the sweet spot too!

When shooting a smaller intimate music event the pressure can be more so - there isn't a team of gallery crew ready to cover every move, nobody is in ear guiding the talent on where to stand... it's raw, real & really fun!

Event / music video producers wear many hats. They're a crucial part in the video production phase but also often manage everything from pre-production to post-production, ensuring that all goes according to the creative plan.

PRE PRODUCTION
Stage 1: I am briefed and then it's my job to consult with clients, manage script writing, create storyboards, budget and acquire the necessary legal clearances. The process can involve a large group of people, all of which need to be managed. Enter the Producer. The producer wears the hat of a captain and steers the pre-production stage into successful seas... and happy clients.

A typical day when looking after an event or music shoot for me during prep would imvolve:

* Meeting with clients to develop their video concept.
* Research into target audience, appropriate branding and writing.
* Preparing to shoot with clear decks, a PPM and crew hires ensures everything has been finalised and everyone is on the same page.

PRODUCTION
During the production of a video, things get more fastpaced and real. The producer’s ability to take things from theory to practice is truly tested.

My days during this stage are long and are always onsite to ensure:

* Set up of the equipment is done safely and as intended to capture the perfect shot.
* Organisation of crew and gear
& site safety checks
* Set up of client area for viewing as far as able
* Brief talent
* Sign off glam
* Troubleshoot the nuances that always come into play!
* Oversee shooting the video and gather all the necessary raw material from audio to picture.

Once the shoot is done producers and editors have the hefty task of compiling all the material and packaging it, as agreed upon in prep, for their client. Largely my role is:

* Reviewing raw material ensuring that the content included in the final video pieces together perfectly.
* Editing to capture the correct lighting and video aesthetic, as requested by the client.

Of course on a live you don't get to experience the full benefits of post bur you can still deliver magic...
