Not one to be a follower but after reading that the TM Team shared their stories, I thought I ought to give it a go, I mean why not, sitting at home applying for work blindly seems to not be working as well as I hoped so why not try something new.
Well, the tough figures. I am 49 (big 50 in July) I am a career changer who went to Uni at 30, and after a brief spell in Film as a 2nd AD and PM I went into TV. Always great to get your first TV Runner role at 40. After being burnt in Film I decided to take a couple of years as a runner to gain as much experience as I could. This ended up as basically four years, I have since done another couple of years as a logger and Data Wrangler (although I data wrangled as a runner as well). I then got my first official Jr Researcher Role, and I was in my next role after that when lockdown hit. So had to drop back down and work back up when I got my first self-shooting role as a Casting Researcher, and when that contract ended, I end up in the unscripted crisis.
So now here I am again, scrapping for runners’ roles and DW roles to pay my rent. Just as I took the casting researcher role, I find out I am ASD so now I must try and not get triggered whilst looking for work. I believe that there is a current bias against neurodiversity in HR departments which is why I have taken any reference of it off my CVS’s. But doesn't stop me being an ally for anyone.
I have family which I am estranged from and have never married or have kids so it’s currently just me against the world. I am a massive movie fan and am currently 8 tattoos into my top ten movies on my arm. A former mountain biker I have played hockey since I was 16 so well over 30 years. Because of a recent health scare I have also taken up the couch to 5k (for about the 30th time) and I have completed that this year so I’m now technically a runner.
Please employ me to stop me volunteering for a marathon (which I won’t complete) real soon.
