Someone once told me you can't produce shortform and work in TV. You can. I do.

I have done for 15 years and I'm passionate about both areas and really great at both jobs.

Recently a colleague said that I should separate the roles or it suggests a lack of commitment to either... what do you think?

I honestly feel it makes me a stronger hire, the skills overlap enormously - and I have a really diverse set of experiences meaning:

■ I'm super equipped to find solutions to more challenges

■ I'm versatile in my approach but the result is the same across all outputs - maximum profit without ever compromising on creative and quality

■ I have such an extensive network of brilliant. multidisciplinary crew

■ I can understand editorial needs in TV with my own experiences in shortform - enabling me to better support

■ I can find cost effective methods to deliver high results... as whilst the odd TVC might have big bucks the majority of shortform shoots don't

■ Sometimes a TV show wants a musician I've produced as a guest on their show... I can help! Once a Director who was working on a particularly kooky music video said "I want this weird, magical land. Like I want Tina Malone from Shameless to appear like a fantasy behind the band"... so I asked her. And she did

■ I continue to do both and get hired across both so I can and am

As its Friday I'm popping the dance tunes on and celebrating the ability to work on such a feast of productions... and it's giving me shooting in the sun feels!

I think we should just go for it - if you are able to get the variety of work and love that mix, then do it. When I deliver a fab series with a healthy profit nobody will care that the next project is a music video in Vegas ♤♧◇♡
