We all have so much going on in our lives - competing strains and stresses – not to mention the recent pandemic and current #offairnightmare .

This has meant at times we may have pushed kindness to one side, in favour of what is urgent now.

It can also be easy to show kindness when posting online, but when it comes to reality it's harder to commit in the same way to our real-life words and actions.

Why should we bother being kind to everyone when it's not always mutual?

By taking the time to be kind to others, we can benefit from emotional upsides. It really does make a difference, especially for people who are vulnerable or struggling.

Kindness also leads to:

■ better self esteem
■ the knowledge you may have made a difference to someone's day
■ a better outcome, usually
■ develops empathy which is a vital skill
■ a more positive working environment
■ reduced stress
■ provides the power to right a wrong
■ enables us to find solutions
■ creates opportunity for others which may lead to opportunity for all

A few simple words may be all it takes to turnaround someone else's bad day

Holding a door open for the person behind you that delays you a fraction might give them the confidence boost or feeling of being valued they desperately need

Letting the person with 1 item in the queue behind you get home a few minutes earlier might give them a moment to breathe

Sharing your lunch with a colleague who didn't have time to go and get any might open conversation that leads to great ideas

Doing any small thing with kindness costs nothing and will have little impact on your day but if we then start to receive such kindness too, wouldn't life feel a little less shitty?!

This week 3 small actions have made me feel GREAT

An old colleague I haven't seen in a long time thought of me and tagged me in a job post - I really appreciated her doing that

A HoP I follow sent me a nice message via DM complimenting my online presence- she didn't need to do that and it made me feel really thankful

A talent manager asked me for some advice and it made me feel valued

All small things. All made a difference.

Don't just think it / post it / tattoo it (me) - do it!

Let's all aim for the benefits of kindness in 2024 ✨️
