Huge apologies for the difficulties logging in for our Festive Speed-Networking event and webinar last night.
The platform that we use, Meetaway, became overwhelmed by the number of people signing in – and it actually crashed their servers!
Our tech team and theirs were frantically trying to get it back up and running but … as you probably realised … to no avail.
Judging by the comments on the Hub, we’re glad people have retained their sense of humour in the face of adversity (I guess after 2023, we’ve had enough practice!), and we really appreciate your understanding.
We’ve used Meetaway a number of times before, and we had several meetings with them about anticipated attendance this evening.
But we’re really sorry for the inconvenience, frustration and any stress this caused. We know how much people were looking forward to the networking – as were we - and it’s disappointing that couldn’t happen tonight.
We did manage to restream the webinar on the TM Hub (which is reliable!) and if you missed it you can still catch up with it here. It’s a great conversation with me, Philippa Childs and Marcus Ryder, chaired by Becs the TM community and content manager with plenty of ideas of how the industry can – and needs to – evolve for freelancers.
We’ll look to reschedule the networking – online and off – ASAP and will be back in touch tomorrow when me and the team have had a chance to pick our spirits up...
Apologies again.

I really do appreciate the efforts being made and the time being given up by all involved BUT parts of that seminar came from such a perspective of privilege - this idea of financial literacy and that people have trepidation around Christmas or any money saved for a rainy day/three months wages is really hard for me to swallow when I’m seeing very talented friends having to leave their homes who have worked their entire lives and spent a small fortune on getting themselves into this world in the first place. A lot of us come from backgrounds with families who have very little and we’ve been doing our best to build lives for ourselves and them and that is now being destroyed for a lot of the people I’ve spoken to. Most people are struggling to get any kind of other work and are being faced with rejection after rejection email.
We need broadcasters to start being honest and open as to why this is happening and help to either ride the wave until things get better or retrain if there isn’t a long term solution. For many that ship has sailed and as have their entire life savings. Those of us who haven’t spent everything we have (yet) also need to speak up before we lose everyone who makes this industry great.
