We run our Grierson DocLab training schemes to help those from a wide range of under-represented backgrounds get into factual TV.
Our core scheme helps new entrants get that first job in docs and the new Editing and Production Management schemes aim to help those who need a leg up to progress or change their careers. They're all about us doing our bit to help people in the industry overcome barriers to entry or progression.
What would you say your main barrier to progression is/was?

Nothing "closed" about opening up the jobs market to over 70,000 people - free to apply for, entirely meritocratic.
The Facebook runners group is not private and not closed. I know it might take people away from Talent Manager but it remains the recruiting space of choice of a huge number of companies because they know they will find quality candidates and recruit people who have not had to pay for the right to apply (or improve their chances).
Hi @StewartScott - I agree FB can be problematic, especially if recruiters are posting jobs ONLY in private groups
We think all jobs should be advertised & advertised as widely as possible so this doesn't preclude using FB as A N Other channel, but it has to include advertising on open platforms like TM, TV Collective or The Unit List.
TV needs to do all it can to be more forward-thinking in its recruitment – hence the tools we’ve built at Talent Manager to facilitate this.
Lots of people don't want to be on FB (given its contribution to fuelling extremism, mental health issues, Trump, disinformation ) Also there's a misconception that FB is free: but in reality its whole business is based on making its users into the product. So companies using FB are really just passing their recruitment 'costs' on to freelancers.
