Last year, The BBC Documentary Unit invited me to host two talks for on how to be an effective and inclusive caster and investigate researcher / AP when working in factual TV making.
I covered effective and intentional casting calls, inclusive language and social media optimisation. I also gave insights on where to find stories that centre minority communities and voices, how to utilise engaging experts, promote new talent and how to retain trust with harder to reach audiences.
My courses don't offer overnight, miracle solutions to TVs lack of diverse storytelling, however, they serve as an aide and a reminder that as talented creatives, we're more than capable of making telly that matters and is relevant to a wide section of our British communities.
Hosting these two talks was definitely a career highlight for me and learnt so many new skills doing so!
