YouTube star, author and actor Joe Sugg has set up an entertainment and fact ent indie backed by BBC Studios.
The BBC’s commercial arm has first look with Final Straw Productions, with BBC Studios exec Sacha Grimsditch (Top Gear, Celebrity Big Painting Challenge) joining Sugg as development executive to help get the company off the ground.
Sugg [pictured left, with Grimsditch, right] is best known for becoming runner-up in the 2018 series of BBC Studios show Strictly Come Dancing and hosting its accompanying podcast. He has also appeared in BBC1’s The Syndicate and has written several graphic novels.
BBC Studios TalentWorks head Helen O’Donnell described Sugg, who has 7.5m YouTube subscribers, as “a creative force” who “entertains and delights audiences across a range of platforms”.
Sugg also runs emerging talent agency Margravine alongside fellow YouTuber Caspar Lee, backed by global management company IMG.
