Banijay indie Remarkable has hired BBC2 and BBC4 head Jo Smith as director of programmes.

Smith will oversee all current productions and lead development at the indie, which makes game shows Pointless and Richard Osman’s House of Games, as well as factual shows Your Home Made Perfect and Your Body Uncovered.

When she joins this summer, she will work loosely with Remarkable factual chief Kitty Walshe to build its development strategy and grow the business. Walshe recently took up the role in addition to her established duties as chief executive of Banijay stablemate RDF Television.

Smith is currently BBC2 and BBC4 portfolio manager, a role introduced last year as a replacement for individual channel controllers, and also heads up the corporation’s factual content strategy.

She joined the BBC in 2018 as an executive producer and was swiftly promoted to executive editor of BBC3. Prior to that she worked as a producer for companies, including digital producer and line producer roles, including Little Dot Studios, Princess Productions, Dragonfly, The Garden, Maverick Television and Century Films.
