Manchester indie Nine Lives has expanded to Birmingham with former Transparent TV chief executive Jazz Gowans joining the company.

Gowans will run the sister site and becomes a board member and co-creative director with husband-and-wife team Cat and Michael Lewis, who set up the factual producer in 2005.

Birmingham-born Gowans wound up her Argonon label Transparent TV in 2019 and recently joined the board of West Midlands creative content industry body Create Central.

Cat Lewis said the move represented “a new era” for Nine Lives, adding: “We’re thrilled to have secured the talents of one of television’s top creatives amid tough competition from broadcasters as well as other independents.”

Lewis has long championed the regional production sector and the company co-produces BBC1’s Songs of Praise with Cardiff-based Avanti Media.
