Avalon has taken a stake in Calamity Films, the scripted indie behind Sky comedy-drama Brassic.
Founded in 2013, Calamity is run by David Livingstone, who was previously head of worldwide marketing and distribution at Working Title Films.
Calamity has produced the movies Pride, Judy and Last Christmas as well as seven series of Brassic, Sky’s most successful comedy series which came to an end this year.
The London-based company is now developing the stage musical of Pride, set to open at the National Theatre next year.
Calamity is the second indie in which Avalon has invested this year, after taking a minority stake in It’s All Made Up Productions, run by Adolescence director Philip Barantini and his Boiling Point collaborator Samantha Beddoe, in April.
Avalon has not revealed the size of its investment in Calamity.
Chief executive Laura Kennedy said: “We love to partner with distinctive producers like David, and share his commitment to talent-led, creative excellence. We are thrilled to be in business together moving forward.”
