Channel 4 is inviting Welsh indies to pitch "funny, bold, jaw-dropping and culturally nuanced ideas” for a digital pilot for youth entertainment brand Channel 4.0.

C4’s training arm 4Skills and C4.0 have drawn up with the National Film and Television School Cymru Wales.

Indies and content creators based in Wales have until 3 October to pitch ideas for creator-led comedy entertainment formats.

C4.0 will then assess the work undertaken on those days with a view to commissioning three to four pilots worth £10,000 to £20,000 and aims to commission a series for the digital channel's Creator Clash Strand.

C4.0 wants ideas “that are instantly gettable from a thumbnail and title and that are too compelling NOT to click on”. It said its audience “loves creator-led comedy entertainment formats designed specifically for YouTube”.

In February, C4 ringfenced £35m of content spend for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales - £10m in 2026 and £25m in 2027 - as part of a strategy to up its spend and hours from the UK nations from 9% to 12% by 2028.

Laura Marks, C4 senior digital commissioning editor and operations lead, said: “This is a fantastic chance for content creators in Wales to gain insight into how they can make the most of digital opportunities and learn how to develop those ideas and pitch them.

“It’s a great programme on how to develop and deliver an idea from inception through to commission, and it includes the added incentive of securing pilots and possibly a full commission.”
