Former BBC commissioner Emily Allen has joined Sky Studios’ comedy team.

As commissioning executive for comedy, Allen will be looking to commission new comedies from indies.

She moves from Boffola Pictures, the indie behind BBC1’s Am I Being Unreasonable?, which she joined in 2021 as head of development.

Prior to that, she spent three years as a BBC comedy commissioner, ordering BBC3’s Zen Motoring and establishing emerging film-makers showcase Festival of Funny. She was also a development executive on BBC Films’ Bafta-nominated feature Rye Lane.

At Sky Studios, she will report to Alex Moody, who took up the new role of head of comedy commissioning when the company merged its comedy and drama teams in September last year.

Moody described Allen as “best in the biz”, highlighting her “impeccable taste”. She added: “Her track record finding and developing talent is outstanding, and she is rightly loved within the industry.”
