Former Pioneer Productions exec Elly Steinberg has joined Bristol-based producer Plimsoll to head up history and science.

As head of development for natural history and science, Steinberg will be responsible for ITV Studios-owned Plimsoll’s premium factual series, and will form a creative exec trio with head of factual entertainment Becky Morison and Ged Mansfield, creative director of the company’s sizzle team.

Plimsoll’s growing premium docs output includes the likes of Nightmares of Nature, an upcoming co-production with horror producer Blumhouse, as well as Nat Geo/Disney+’s Super/Natural [main picture], which is executive produced by James Cameron, Stephen Fry-fronted Fox Nation/ITV co-pro A Year on Planet Earth, and Netflix’s Animal.

Steinberg has previously been a development producer for both Pioneer and eOne Entertainment, and as an assistant producer at Icon Films. She has also worked for Humble Bee Films and Furnace TV.

At Plimsoll, she reports to Martha Holmes, chief creative officer for natural history and science.

Plimsoll recently promoted executive producer James Smith to the newly-created role of head of adventure. It also parted with senior vice president of international development Jess Jordan, who has moved to Chimp Productions, the indie run by presenter Richard Hammond.
