Iwan England, the producer and director of 2016 Bafta Cymru best single documentary winner Aberfan: The Fight For Justice, takes up the role, which will involve developing co-productions, premium limited series and formats.

England recently graduated from the BBC, Channel 4 and S4C-funded Factual Fast Track scheme, which primes senior producers for senior management roles.

England’s other credits include Open University/BBC Wales co-pro Wales: Who Do We Think We Are – another collaboration with Aberfan presenter Huw Edwards.

He executive produced Wildflame Productions’ S4C doc Wrecsam, Clwb Ni, which talks to Wrexham fans about Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney buying the football club.

He has also overseen episodes of BBC1 doc strand Our Lives and, with his own indie Alpha Productions, is developing formats with Welsh comedian Elis James.

England said he would be building new creative partnerships whilst being an unabashed cheerleader for Welsh talent in front of and behind the camera”.

His appointment follows a recent reshuffle of S4C’s commissioning team, with former assistant commissioner Guto Rhun appointed as young audiences’ commissioner and three commissioners promoted to heads of their respective genres: Llinos Wynne (docs/specialist factual), Gwenllian Gravelle (drama) and Elen Rhys (entertainment).
