I have worked with Gary for many years in many different ways and he has never failed to be excellent.

Gary has been an off-line editor for Halo, an on-line editor, a post production workflow designer and an edit suit builder.

As an offline editor Gary is an incredible story teller. Halo makes interview heavy films and Gary can immerse himself in transcripts and pull out the story shot - not just the one we think we have shot. He can then craft our films into powerful engaging pieces. Key to this is his ability to use images in flexible and surprising ways.

At Halo, we on-line in house and Gary is our go to editor. He takes responsibility for delivery and once a project has been passed to him we know it will be completed. At this stage he is often able to enhance our films even further, using a unique blend of off-line/on-line skills.

Finally, Gary is a tech wizard. He is my go to person for thinking about production workflows. No project is the same and camera choice, edit suit, software all have an impact. Gary has often thought through and offered solutions that have saved us both time and money. He has also built our edit suit!

Back in 2017 I was putting together a crew for a complex and logistically challenging shoot to film polar bears in the frozen Barents Sea. During my enquiries I met Gary and was immediately struck by his buoyant and vibrant personality. Gary is first and foremost an editor, but he's also brilliant at VFX and an amazing technician. His multidisciplinary background was exactly what the shoot demanded. During a hazardous expedition in the sea ice he managed to maintain a functioning avid suite and cut a film. He's since been working on several major projects for us at JDP and has been a joy to work with. He's super quick in the edit suite and has a natural instinct for storytelling, even when the world around him is crashing about.
