I am a very experienced award-winning Director and Series Producer, with over 30 years’ prime time broadcast experience. I am best known for the highly successful feature documentary - MY GENERATION - starring Michael Caine and a host of other British 60s icons about the 60s social revolution in London (just repeated on BBC4 over the Christmas break). It had its world premiere at the 2017 Venice Film Festival and was released in the UK in March 2017 by Lionsgate in over 200 cinemas; and in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan in the autumn. Described by top US film critic Glenn Kenny as "a manic vibrating 85 minutes...The use of archival footage in this movie is staggering. It often comes off like a telly advert, but an expertly made one, and the soundtrack is pretty killer too." My Emmy-nominated feature - CULT OF THE SUICIDE BOMBER - was described in the New Yorker as "dissecting the heart of darkness...remarkable...a kick in the gut," and by Variety as "thoughtful, incisive, controversial." Over the last 30 years, I have directed more than 40 films, tackling subjects from homeless runaways to the royal family, from the Kamikaze of Japan to the bin men of Camden, from a humorous take on Britain's Maggie Thatcher - MAGGIE AND ME - to a cutting investigation of who we are - 100% ENGLISH. I began making observational films for Channel 4’s award-winning Obs Doc series, ‘CUTTING EDGE’ and have filmed all over the world from Morocco to Kashmir, from Syria to Iran, from Israel to Lebanon, from India to Peru. In Japan I was the only westerner to be made an honorary member of the Kamikaze Veterans Club; while in 2005 I spent a year filming the families of suicide bombers in Israel, the Palestinian territories and Lebanon. I have a very strong sense of narrative storytelling and am at home in wide genre of films from Obs Docs to Current Affairs investigations to archive-led historical docs. I also pride myself on finding the best human stories in any situation.I have also Series Produced many large projects for UK and International broadcasters including a 4 part prime time series for PBS and Arte, FIRST CIVILISATIONS (Wall to Wall) that involved complicated and dangerous shoots all over the world from Pakistan to Iraq, Turkey to Japan, the deserts of Oman to the jungles of Guatemala.Most recently I Series produced a 3-part documentary series for SKY about the unsolved mystery of the death of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme and the many conspiracy theories it has spawned (Yet to be broadcast). I am a passionate film-maker comfortable with one-off features docs and running multi-person teams for long running series.
