Jennifer is an extremely hard-working, pragmatic and positive presence in a production team and very quickly became a key member of our staff.
Debate Night was commissioned on a very tight production schedule, and Jennifer made an invaluable contribution to the launch of the programme – booking audience members and panelists to exacting criteria.
Jennifer brought knowledge of news and current affairs, as well as perspectives from a hinterland working outside of broadcasting which was extremely valuable.
Jennifer had the phone almost glued to her ear speaking to prospective audience members, understanding their politics and how that might inform their contribution. She flagged possible issues with any applications, and was an ambassador for the programme with the public. Phone-bashing can often be a thankless and relentless part of the job, but she did it with good humour and constant enthusiasm.
She demonstrated excellent judgement about when to escalate issues, and understood the complexities of booking a politically representative audience.
Our editorial meetings throughout the week also benefited from Jennifer’s knowledge and insight – she was always willing to share a constructive opinion on the possible topics of the week and possible panel guests.
She was a key part of the launch of a brand new, high-profile programme on the BBC Scotland channel, and excelled when dealing with members of the public both over the phone and in person.
Jennifer brought invaluable experience from her theater background to outside broadcasts, where she mentored younger members of the team, was reliably proactive to fix problems before they caused issues, liaised superbly with the floor manager and presenter, and demonstrated sensitivity in dealing with contributors and audience members with special needs.
