By then I was 19, just founded the Basketball Club “BG Boese Hand, e.V.1988 with three school mates and prepared for matric. Political Science taught us that there is one Germany – and one Germany only. But in reality, we experienced a two state scenario and felt we had nothing in common with the East. We rather drove to Paris for a weekend – then even considering crossing into Poland, just 50 km away from us. Standing on the Berlin Wall in front of the Brandenburg Gate, I looked at CNN, BBC, the Broadcast Vans and all the cool people buzzing around the presenters. In this moment the decision of joining this media circus, formulated in my head.
RIAS BERLIN, (Radio in the American Sector) just formed a tv section, called Deutsche Welle TV, which I joined in the Main Control Room for Mediaport. From studio based broadcasting, to postproduction and satellite news gathering desk at Deutsche Welle TV’s Main Control Room, I developed a passion for news - and more so, for storytelling. Mandela drew me to South Africa and my desire to meet and work with the man and its family has led to many occasions in which I was allowed to rub shoulders with many World leaders and famous people.
My work allowed to cover, film or produced stories, or documentaries from more than 20 African countries, the Middle East and Asia. In 2004, I registered my own business, called “camera13”
My business in South Africa focuses on Media support for camera and production services for International journalists and Advertising agencies. The production of researched and packaged news stories for International broadcasters, entertainment programmes for local South African Broadcasters, or content production for corporate and social media platforms, is the general bracket.
Personally, my capabilities to research, produce and create balanced TV reports of an investigative nature have sharpened my senses to create relevant content with realistic timeframes and predictable outcomes - in often less developed and challenging environments.
