I have known Lucy and her work for over seven years, both during my time as CEO and Creative Director of Teachers TV and more recently as an international consultant in the field of media and education.

During that time she established herself as one of the most creative, reliable and well-informed producer directors who worked on Teachers TV. The channel had a clear-cut educational brief but we always insisted on the highest broadcast quality production standards with a particular emphasis on engaging narrative. With her background in television journalism, she quickly developed a deep understanding of education made absolutely sure that she was always properly briefed and researched. She was always a highly professional director with an excellent eye for character and story. She was particularly good at dealing with school leaders, a prickly bunch , again utilizing her long track record in responsible journalism.

It was some measure of the respect we had for Lucy that in the last year of the Teachers TV project we appointed her commissioning editor at the channel where she demonstrated sound judgment and clear editorial vision which she was able to communicate to producers.

Lucy also specialized in international productions for Teachers TV, where her experience paid dividends in handling difficult access and organizational challenges to always bring back a high quality programme well within the often limited budgets.

The last project Lucy completed for me was a demanding assignment filming in South African schools. As ever, Lucy’s determination and professional eye overcome the numerous logistic and motivational challenges thrown at her. She came back with eight excellent programmes on a tight schedule and budget.

I have not been directly involved in Lucy’s more recent work at the Public Service Broadcasting Trust I have been very aware of the quality of her work which demonstrated her outstanding inter-personal skills especially with young people as well as her rather extraordinary ability to deliver high quality engaging pieces within highly restricted budgets and timeframes.
