I have known Steph for almost four years. She was a student on a degree course (Multi-media Journalism) where I work with students on a variety of broadcast, online and other journalism units and also liaise with some of them while they research and deliver their Final Major Multi-media Projects (FMP). I was lucky enough to be Steph's FMP tutor. Her finished project is a wonderful piece of multi-media journalism and well worth looking at if you want to see firsthand the high level of professionalism she is capable of achieving and the many and various technical skills she has mastered. It is true to say from the first time I met Steph it was clear that she was someone with the commitment to go far. She is a truly driven self-starter, a strong independent worker and a quick and willing learner. She takes criticism well and always looks to improve each time she takes on a piece of work. She has during her time at SSU mastered a wide range of technical equipment and disciplines - including broadcast cameras, broadcast audio equipment, Macs, PCs and even more difficult areas such as radio studios and TV studios and broadcast areas. She has also mastered a number of software packages including mainstream packages such as Word (and office in general) but also media and audio broadcast editing software and such platforms as Final Cut Pro. She was always willing to work on the areas that challenged her abilities and work to master them and she was successful in doing so. She has a strong news sense and a really good eye for a human story, and a real insatiable desire to tell stories to people. She is multi-lingual and as a person she is kind, supportive, a good team player and has a strong work ethic. She is ambitious and has a passion for journalism that is not always evident in today's would-be journalists. She is someone who would be a genuine asset to any newsroom.
