My name is Jessica Secmezsoy-Urquhart. I'm someone at the earliest stage of pursuing a role in media. I have many skills in a variety of mediums. As a writer I am working through a novel called Life Goes On which is a magic realism work based on the childhood of my Dede(turkish for grandpa) who was in institutions and on the streets in early Republic Istanbul. It is like a fairy tale combined with Oliver Twist with sprinkles of One Hundred Years of Solitude and I Served the King of England. It has took years of research , transcription of oral history by my Dede and development of my writing skills to reach this point. I also write short stories and poetry.Regarding film ,videos and audio skills I have written a short film script called Putting on the Day which will be made at the start of 2018 and has gone through different drafts to perfect it. It looks at the inner private lives of different individuals and their attempt to cope in the public outer world wearing masks and "putting on the day". I am also starting podcasts. The first Past Caring is my own history podcast which will consider the marginalised and ignored from history and uses my skills in history and research to the best advantage. The second is for my work at the Glasgow Women's Library. It will be called The Great Wee Listen and focus both on events, interviews and collections in the library as well as on different topics such as the arts, culture and history so as to reach a wider audience around the world wishing to learn in an enriching way. I have a youtube Disaqueer and Past Caring which will be coming out of hiatus soon as well.My history blog is Past Caring on facebook, medium and tumblr and does the same as the podcast with recent pieces being on the dancing plague, Helen Keller , Noor Inayat Khan and Stonewall. My photography skills can be seen through my facebook page Jessica Secmezsoy-Urquhart or my flickr Sibylvane where projects and shots are collected. A recent project I have begun is Rainbow Generation which combines photography with interviews to shine a light on the life of the younger generation today who identify as lgbt. I have also done a photo project for Glasgow Women's Library called We Are GWL which can be seen on their website and aims to use photos and interviews too to look at the connections, roles and experiences of volunteers there so as to engage with visitors and encourage new volunteers to consider joining.Lastly articles for newspapers I have done include those for Glasgow University's Glasgow Guardian such as:
On Pride--https://glasgowguardian.co.uk/2015/07/02/fighting-for-an-inclusive-pride/
