As a trained Actor and Singer and I have been teaching Voice (Spoken Voice and Singing) for over 20 years, in ‘one to one’ tuition and in workshops.I qualified in Speech and Drama in 1994, gaining the LGSM Teaching Diploma from Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I have been fortunate to train with some of the ‘voice greats’ Cicely Berry (when I worked with the RSC), Patsy Rodenburg at Guildhall and Francis Thomas (Bristol Old Vic).I have been teaching Voice for Theatre and Public Speaking since qualifying and I also teach Singing, especially Musical Theatre. This is a trained, enhanced voice, whether on stage or on camera. For stage, there is always the element of projection from a position of support in the body. On camera, even though the voice is not projected, it must retain its actorly qualities of tone, character and focus. It should not be breathy, devoiced or mumbly. Voice for camera has been sadly neglected of late, and this has given rise to many complaints from television viewers to Judi Dench in The Stage newspaper.I am a thorough teacher and I am really keen on achieving effective outcomes for my pupils.
