Read MoreI am a self-shooting PD and Edit Producer based in Cardiff. My background is largely in Crime and Consumer programmes, having worked in and around Wales mainly for the past decade, but I am looking to move into different genres.
The programmes I’ve worked on have been varied in nature; I’ve filmed obs-doc style actuality (at Port of Dover, Heathrow Airport, Port of Felixstowe, police raids), Master Interviews, set-up shots and GVs. I’ve also worked on Talent - led programmes which involved shooting, sometimes cross-shooting with multiple cameras, interviews, informal “chats”, walk and talks and pieces to camera.
As an Edit Producer I have worked as the sole EP alongside a Series Editor to create 10 x 45 minutes (Frontline Fightback and Defenders UK), at times running multiple edits. This involved viewing master interviews and rushes quickly and writing edit scripts; this is usually done at a rate of 1 x 7-8 minute part per day. Stories in these series usually have complex legal and/ or technical elements to them.
I’ve also worked as an EP on fixed rig productions (Skin A&E) which involved cutting down long sync pulls and finding suitable clips from master interviews, or leaving gaps for future master interview answers.
I come from a journalistic background and have been described by previous employers as editorially strong; having worked extensively in the edit as well as on the ground, I know exactly what the edit needs and how to get that out of a shoot. As a side note, I’m hot on legals and compliance having worked on several programmes featuring complex, sometimes technical, legal cases.
I’ve worked with and interviewed a variety of contributors including vulnerable people and victims of crime. I’m emotionally intelligent and know when I can push for answers and when I can’t. I deal with emotional and tricky interviews with a balanced approach of empathy and professionalism; I want contributors to know they are safe in my hands.
I’ve also worked with a variety of professional bodies including police, DCPCU, Border Force, the Environment Agency and Trading Standards (among others); I understand the pressures (and sometimes politics!) that accompany dealing with these.
I’ve developed the ability to think on my feet, having been put in situations where the planned shoot has gone out the window! I’ve learned how to cope under pressure and deal with stressful situations - with and without talent present.
If I had to sum myself up I’d say I’m a grafter and a team player. I can knuckle down when times are tough and push through. My goal in every project I take on is to give it my all, finish to the best of my ability and most of all, not let the team down.
