I am an award-winning shooting PD based in London, working across production and development, in Docs and Specialist Factual.
I've shot and directed projects for the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, Netflix, FIFA+, Paramount+ - as well as short-form online projects for The Evening Standard, Boiler Room and Nowness.
In 2022 I shot and produced the one-off feature documentary 'Another Way: The Forest Green Rovers Story' for FIFA+, about the groundbreaking vegan football team at Forest Green in Gloucestershire. I then worked as a Shooting PD on the groundbreaking and controversial Channel 4 special, 'Jimmy Carr Destroys Art', in which we memorably burned one of Hitler's paintings.
In 2021 I produced Imagine: Jacob Collier for the BBC, working alongside Alan Yentob, we interviewed the likes of Hans Zimmer, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Chris Martin and Stormzy. I also worked in Development at BBC Studios, winning commissions such as 'A Life in 10 Pictures', 'Banned! The Mary Whitehouse Story' and 'David Dimbleby's Days that Shook the BBC'.
In 2020 at ITN Productions I directed 'Coronavirus: Can You Avoid It' (spoiler: it turned out you couldn't), as well as the fast-turnaround 'The Royals: A Family In Crisis' and edit produced 'When Women Abuse Men'.
In 2019 I shot and directed by first broadcast series - 'Handmade in Africa' for BBC 2 & 4. In 2019-20 I co-directed my first hour-long film for BBC 4 - '21st Century Mythologies', before going to work as a Shooting PD at ITN, working on 'Coronavirus: Can You Avoid It?' for C4, 'Royals: A Family in Crisis' for ITV.
In 2018 I released my first documentary short as Shooting PD, for the exclusive online channel Nowness.com. 'Jab Jab' - which profiles the extraordinary unique carnival culture of Grenada, won Best Documentary Short at the International Grenadian Film Festival, and best documentary at the Nottingham Microfilm Festival. It also screened at Raindance Film Festival in London, Doc NYC in New York, and Washington DC Shorts. The film can be seen in its entirety here: https://www.nowness.com/series/scenes/jab-jab-tom-harrad- reuben-millns-grenada.
In development, I have independently originated, written and pitched ideas and won commissions with major UK, US and European broadcasters. I worked as a development producer for 72 Films for the first eighteen months of their operation - helping to win key commissions such as 'The Rise of the Nazis', 'Icons: The Story of the 20th Century', 'A Dangerous Dysnasty:House of Assad' and 'Queen Elizabeth's Secret Agents' for BBC 2, and 'Trump: An American Story' for Netflix.
I have also worked in development for companies such as Blakeway, Brook Lapping, Minnow Films and ITN. I have developed series and singles for Specialist Factual, Docs and Fact Ent, and have pitched current affairs programmes for Panorama and Dispatches. • Shooting (FS7, C300, XF305, 5D, A7S) • Editing (Adobe Premiere, FCP) • Edit producing, story, script editing • Setting up multi-camera/single-camera/interview shoots, working on location • Interviewing self-shooting or with PD, Independently leading recces • International & UK access • Development, story finding, casting • Archive research, UGC and permissions • DIT • Clean UK driving licence
