Luke started work for us on Absolutely Ascot as a production runner and logger. Jobs he executed without fault. However, it was apparent very early on in the production that we were wasting his true potential keeping him in just those roles. So when the opportunity came for a kit manager, Luke stepped up and made the role his own, keeping four FS7 kits, including 12 mics, 12 lenses, etc in working order with no losses over a 12 week period. Luke’s technical knowledge and organisational skills were invaluable during our filming block. He was diligent, doggedly organised, and always showed great ingenuity. When we built our hot set and master interview set up he immediately impressed with his studio lighting abilities. He not only maintained our kit but kept and managed a safe working set for over three months. Still not content, Luke expressed his desire to shoot and when a story broke and there were no PDs on shift Luke covered one of the main scenes of the series. He showed great professionalism and kept a calm head when a ordinary scenario suddenly turned volatile and potentially dangerous. Showing a maturity that defies his age. In the last week of production we expanded Luke’s shooting duties and working with a producer he shot mini scenes and pick ups. Although there were not many producing opportunities for Luke, he took an active role in all of the shoots he was assisting & and shooting on and was not afraid to throw in his own suggestions and questions. I have no doubt that we have only seen a fraction of this young man’s potential and whether he goes down the DoP route or the self-shooting PD route I am confident he will excel at either. It is clear Luke is ambitious and talented but most important thing I can say is that he polite, punctual, diligent and always approachable - not once on the shoot did I hear him moan about long hours or having to sort kit after a 13hour shoot. I would not hesitate to recommend Luke to anyone I know in the industry and wish him all the best for his next project. Tom Thompson, Series Director, Absolutely Ascot
