About Me

With nearly 20 years in the cutting room, I’m a highly creative, fast and skilful storyteller with an excellent sense for narrative and character, a keen eye for detail and a flair with music and sound design.

My experience spans a wide variety of programme formats and genres, from high-end wildlife and adventure series, to ... Read More

If this was a Google review, I’d give Ben five stars. As well as being a brilliant, well organised and technically proficient editor, he’s a lovely human being with exemplary storytelling skills. He is creative with both pictures and sound and always goes that extra mile to deliver a pitch-perfect cut with extra sprinkles on top. He’s great fun to collaborate with but can also be trusted to run with his own ideas. We’ve worked together or three projects so far and I'm truly hoping to up that tally soon.

Matt Thompson - Edit Producer

Ben is a tremendous editor: creative, thorough, and attentive to notes. He's cut shows for 2 seasons of Shark Attack 360 (Nat Geo) which calls for great story-telling skills, polished drama recreation (including seamlessly comping in archive of sharks with actors), and all to be done on schedule. I'd have him back in a heartbeat.

Nick Metcalfe

Ben is a thoughtful, creative, collaborative editor and a joy to work with. I spent a long hot summer stuck in a dark basement edit with him and as well as being a talented editor he's good company.

Anne Gallagher

I worked with Ben when I was a Series Producer on a 10 part natural history series. Ben is a skilled editor but also collaborative and a great team player. He works well to story and series style and, in this case, handled the crossover between natural history and human stories seamlessly. I enjoyed working with Ben and hope our paths cross again in the edit.

Ben Wallis

Ben has edited on four of my projects (I think, it could be five...) and has done a fantastic job on all of them. He's quick and hard working, enjoyable company during long edits and a offers valuable editorial input. The projects I've brought him in on have been varied, all presenting their own challenges and unique set ups, and Ben has taken it all in his stride. I always check Ben's availability at the start of any new project, hoping he can join the team when we hit the edits!

Nicholas Head

I worked with Ben on a Shark Week show for discovery. We had mountains of footage which Ben was thorough at going through, knowing every inch of the rushes. He cut dramatic sequences that had the impact discovery wanted, listening to the clients at every turn. With creativity, dedication and a smile, ben cut a great film. I’d definitely work with him again.

Lara Bickerton

Thoroughly enjoyed my time working with Ben. We had a tricky first episode of a new series to figure out and he was instrumental in helping to set the tone and style of the whole series. I work part time and look for editors whose creative decisions and work ethic I can trust whilst I'm out of the office and Ben definitely fitted that description. I look forward to working with him again in the future.

Laura Coates

Ben is a craftsman with the sensitivity and eye for detail needed to fashion a truly compelling story.

Jim Greayer

"Working with Ben is always a pleasure. Over the last 6 years I have sat in many long and challenging edits with him and have always been impressed by his attention to detail, his work ethic and his calmness under pressure.

Ben has an ability to make the correct editorial judgements and bring out the very best in the rushes he is working with, whether it’s multi camera shoots, multi track music editing or making sense of rushes spoken in remote tribal languages.

He takes great pride in his work and has cut some of my favourite programmes. He remains my first choice of editor for any series I am making."

Alistair Smith, Series Producer 'Fishing Impossible' BBC Earth

I just wanted to pass on a heartfelt thank you for the brilliant job you have done on our 'Back to the Wild' Documentary - not just editing it, but shaping it fundamentally. Part editor, part writer, part music supe and part producer you have really wrestled this one into great shape and we are really appreciative of all you brought to the film

Shaun Farrington (ZealotUK)

"Ben delivered a classy and stylish film that punched above its weight. He's also a pleasure to work with."

Ash Potterton - Exec Producer, Arrow Media

Ben has an intelligent approach to editing; creative, organised and hard-working. He is very patient and copes well with demanding clients and quick turnaround projects. He is a pleasure to be around and a good team member.
