I have recently completed my second feature film that I have written/directed/co-produced and starred in called MY SAVIOUR.
I raised the money privately through local businesses and self funded it, I made it for £20,000.I have always been obsessed with cinema since l was a child.
When I left school I attempted to get on my local drama course but because I was working full time as a bouncer, l was told l wouldn't be able to devote the time to the course as the other students as they were all funded by their parents.
I tried again the next year but was basically told my lifestyle wasn't conducive to the course and that I wouldn't fit in.I was devastated and felt my dreams were over before they had begun.
My 20's were a mess as l drifted from one job to another, taxi driver, soldier, builder, window cleaner etc
I wasn't following my dream and passion but l didn't know how to get into those circles as I didn't mix with 'arty people'. I self destructed because of how l was feeling inside. When l was 31 l went back to the same course and auditioned again with a new tutor. I was placed on the degree course and passed.
When l left it appeared l all my time was being used on trying to get an agent. I had enough and decided to make my own opportunities so l sat in my room for a few days and wrote a play called DOORWAYS based on my 20 years as a bouncer and in the army. i didn't know how to write a play but it had come to a time when l had to do things instead of procrastinating over them, so again, l just did it.It's 2 man play, based on a younger and older bouncer, they are probably both me in my different stages of life It was 2 man so easy to stage with no props.
It was a great success and sold out, this gave me tremendous amounts of confidence to march forward regardless of what people thought.Through this l was fortunate enough to win an acting scholarship with NEW YORK FILM ACADEMY and a writing scholarship with The National Theatre.
I needed to raise funds to live in New York for a year so l sold and did everything l could, including a cage fighting tournament for a prize of £5,000 which would have aided me considerably but unfortunately l broke my leg in the fight. So that chance was over but every cloud has a silver lining and l decided even though l didn't know how and had absolutely no money, l would adapt DOORWAYS from play to feature film.
I got everybody l thought could help me and be interested in this in one room but l couldn't believe the negative feedback and energy that l got back. I just wanted to make a short trailer to try and raise funds for a feature but everyone seemed to conclude even that would cost too much money.
A bit upset but more frustrated l just got my friend and a camera and shot a short trailer ourselves.
It was extremely rough but gained a lot of interest on social media.
So now l went about making the film without really having an idea of the process, but l think that saved me as rules went out of the window and l did it my way.I storyboarded every scene, raised £10,000 from local businesses, auditioned actors, got free catering in return for making a promotional video for the company and things such as that.
I hired a professional sound man and cinematographer.
It was the toughest thing l had ever done but l did it with nobody showing me how. It's not CITIZEN KANE but t's a full feature and l did it. It was like a self given apprenticeship.I have now completed my second feature MY SAVIOUR the same way and it is light years ahead in story telling, performances and cinematography, even though it basically gave me a breakdown during filming as it was so tough to do and with no assistants or such.I apologise for my banal waffling but l wanted to give you a little background on my. I will never give up, cinema is my life and I want to make a living making and acting in films.Eddie was very kind and said he might consider being in my new film RELENTLESS which I will shoot in the summer.
i have sent the screenplay to him with a part written for him.
He may think its shit, or I could rewrite his character or anything.
I could film around Eddie, whenever would be convenient with him as I know he's so busy.
It would take 2 days maximum.MY SAVIOUR has been entered into The Brooklyn Film and Edinburgh Film Festivals and has a screening with the head of Warner Bros UK as he liked the trailer and called to say he wished to screen it when complete.
I believe its going to be a great and exciting year for all those involved.I am trying so very hard to make this come true and it would be great if you could be a part of it.Here are the 2 trailers for MY SAVIOUR and a short film the BBC did on me regarding people changing their lives around and going after their dreams. It only goes up to the point of when l won my scholarships.Thank you so much for your time if you are still awake.https://vimeo.com/267034008mysaviourmovie.co.ukhttps://youtu.be/RTtCu25RqMAhttps://youtu.be/0-tkuJPAOc4https://youtu.be/R0vwqApAO4g Read Less
