I’m a producer/SP/writer, who loves working with comedians, children and celebrities to build TV shows that are striking and spirited. I’m adaptable, at home on travelogues, location shoots, studio shows, online shorts, topical comedy and educational or factual-entertainment formats. I'm also a trained Mental Health First Aider, passionate about the welfare of all team members.
I've just finished producing Dave Gorman: Modern Life Is Goodish - a new four-part special of a stand-up show I previously worked on as a researcher. Working on a small team, we provided Dave with the practical and creative support he needed to bring his ideas to TV. I worked closely with Dave and the series producer when finalising scripts, including liaising with lawyers to establish licensing and fairdealing requirements and resolve any legal issues. As a team we also generated ideas to help bring extra fun into each section, whether through props, visual gags or studio guests.
For a 9-month period I was Series Producer on Live Lessons - an educational format for CBBC and BBC Teach - and won a Royal Television Society award in that role. Overseeing nine episodes for the school year, I helped the team to shape valuable, accessible and fun half-hour episodes, on important topics from Remembrance and Mental Health to Sharks and Eurovision. We worked closely with partners at BBC Teach and organisations such as the Anti-Bullying Alliance to ensure were providing educationally robust lessons that struck the right note with our 7- to 11-year-old viewers, their teachers and parents. This included overseeing three live episodes, at locations from a story museum to an aquarium, and marking important themed occassions such as World Book Day.
We won the RTS award for our Eurovision special, which I created, produced and edit-produced - a fun, educational show teaching children how to express themselves through songwriting. I directed a thoughtful VT introducing Liverpool and Eurovision, as well as leading a two-day studio shoot, working with a children's choir, celeb hosts and Eurovision legends.
I’ve also produced comics such as Rosie Jones, Munya Chawawa and Romesh Ranganathan, and am often heavily involved in scripting, generating ideas and bringing the best out of talent on complex shoots. Adept at finding the heart of a story and making it funny, I’ve written on topical and quiz shows, and won a Funny Women award. I've also recently completed a PD Bootcamp, to consolidate the skills I've learnt during six years in TV - from shoot planning and storytelling, to getting the best out of contributors.
Other recent roles have included working closely with talent, developing, co-writing and producing comedy, entertainment and fact-ent ideas that suit their voice and channels' needs. Namely:
- I've produced series two of Rosie Jones's Mission: Accessible, shaping amusing storylines for Rosie's irreverent travelogue, casting comedians and celebrities including Big Zuu and Mike Wozniak to accompany her, and organising activity-packed shoots.
- I've produced two new series for Channel 4 Digital, giving brilliant comedians the chance to build distinctive celebrity chat-show formats. For Bobby Mair's The People Vs, the anarchic comedian interviewed a celebrity on the streets of Streatham, with the help of members of the public. And for VIPees with Josh Jones, we shot an innovative chat-show in a toilet.
- I've produced a 10-part children's show from commission to edit, including being the main contact point for the two hosts (The Slow-Mo Guys) during hugely complex outdoor shoots. I wrote scripts and ensured they had everything they needed to be funny and relaxed - while we conducted experiments tackling topics from The Vikings to Airships, blew things up in fields, etc.
- I've produced and co-written shorts in the voice of comedians and celebrities, including Romesh Ranganathan, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and "comedimum" Sophie McCartney, for BBC Bitesize's Homeschooling Hacks and Homework Hacks.
- I also produced Dave Gorman's studio show, Terms & Conditions Apply, developing the show from pilot and writing scripts in his voice. I worked with guest comedians including Katherine Ryan, Jimmy Carr and Rose Matafeo, ensuring they were briefed on studio games and filming VTs in locations from London to Warrington.
- I've co-written and produced topical shorts with Munya Chawawa, combining stand-up, sketch and animation in shortform pilots for E4. I've also written topical comedy for Dead Ringers and The Mash Report and gags for The Weakest Link.
I've also shown a skill for developing new shows, having worked on many "first series", including The Slow-Mo Guys' Big Adventures. Working as a producer on Dave Gorman's Terms and Conditions Apply, and as an AP on Al Murray's Great British Pub Quiz, the topical show The Week That Wasn't, and the food-challenge show Comedians v Food... in each of these cases I helped to devise new strands and studio games from scratch, thinking about the comedic aims of the talent, how to bring the most fun out in their show, and how to make it all work brilliantly on busy studio days. On The Week That Wasn't, I also oversaw the writers' room as an AP, briefing writers, providing news packs and ensuring the correct legal checks were made. Recently for the LEGO Masters franchise I've also shown my imagination as a Challenge Producer, attending a four-day workshop in Denmark to develop new challenges for the show internationally.
I'm creative, collaborative and agile, having produced digital-first and social media projects - such as Rosie Jones's irreverent travelogue Mission: Accessible, chat-shows VIPees and The People Vs, the studio challenge show Comedians v Food, and Munya Chawawa's What If? - as well as on more mainstream studio shows.
In terms of studio work - in my role as Live Lessons Series Producer, I've overseen shoots in studios including Green Screen facilities, and makeshift studios set up anywhere from a music venue to a war museum. I've been a Studio AP on Celebrity Lingo with RuPaul, looking after celeb guests before and during busy studio days, and writing useful celeb biogs for the host and gallery team. On three studio series with Dave Gorman, I worked up from researcher to producer, as well as being AP on Al Murray's Great British Pub Quiz and a researcher on the live BBC Two magazine Too Much TV. As researcher for Frank Skinner On Demand, I sourced celebrity guests for the weekly TV review show, wrote host notes and guest biogs, to ensure a lively discussion.
Across these TV roles I've performed a broad range of tasks, including generating ideas, developing studio games, assisting at shoots (studio, VTs, vox pops and hidden camera), writing briefings and scripts, leading topical briefings for writers and talent, sourcing archive material, sourcing props, looking after talent, liaising with lawyers and completing post-production paperwork.
Away from TV, I have also shown my passion for making funny things with funny people. I direct live shows, including Joz Norris's award-winning 2019 Fringe show, and Tom Ward's distinctive 2022 hour Anthem. I've also worked with Thanyia Moore to direct sections of her stand-up material, and produced Tony Law on Ice - an innovative comedy play on ice, featuring a cast of 13 alternative comics, which won a Chortle Award. This is demonstrative of my fearless approach - I will get stuck into any activity, regardless how complex or ridiculous it sounds.
To reinforce my broadcasting skills, I've completed a Diploma in Writing and Producing Comedy at the National Film and Television School, where I was mentored by Jason Hazeley and Joel Morris (who write the Ladybird Books for Grown-Ups and regularly collaborate with Charlie Brooker). I have since been a regular in the Dead Ringers' writers' room, as well as writing for The Mash Report/The Daily Mash, BBC Bitesize, Tiny Happy People, Beano, Mashed and E4. I previously worked as a broadsheet journalist for nine years, showing strong attention to detail and writing skills.
