Jo Horsey is a creative, organised, diligent and gifted director. She's unflappable in any circumstance. She's excellent under pressure and can deal with fast-turnaround shoots and edits. She works well with presenters who respect her experience and calm attitude. She writes well both before the shoot and in the edit. She works hard and is always reliable. She's a great team player and is well liked. With Jo, I know the job's going to get done and done well and with flair. She's everything you could possibly want in a director/ edit producer. I would have her back in a flash.
For Countryfile, we work all year regardless of the weather, the conditions and the terrain. Through all the challenges this brings, on location, Jo creates a warm atmosphere among the crew and gives clear direction to everyone on the ground. She has a disarming manner with contributors which brings out their best takes. And throughout the entire production process, she has a clear and strong sense of story.
I have worked closely alongside Jo as a production colleague and latterly as her series editor on Inside Out, the UK's most popular current affairs programme. Jo has that rare combination of being both an excellent journalist and a creative film maker. She is able to work across a wide genre range from hard-nosed and high-risk current affairs to popular factual programmes for network channels. As an edit producer she is fast and efficient, ploughing through rushes with a keen eye and bringing flair to the final product. She is an excellent storyteller and script writer who needs little supervision, adept at writing in different tones and styles according to the brief. She is the consummate team player, brilliant at getting the best from her colleagues in any situation and a pleasure to work with.
