I first worked with Alex over twenty years ago when he was invited to join the pool of directors making the archaeology show Time Team. I was not only the presenter but also an associate Producer on the show so got to know his work well both behind and in front of camera.

Being a freshman in a confident, long running series is never an easy task, but from the first day Alex displayed a gentle authority, an ability to listen, a social ease, and most importantly a relaxed confidence with the historic and archaeological material he was working with. He also had a wicked sense of humour, which I found surprising given how straight-faced he often is! For instance he created a lovely little slapstick water fight between the archaeologist Phil Harding and I when we were arguing about how boats were caulked in the Tudor period. The comedy arose out of the scene in a perfectly natural way, and was often remarked on affectionately by viewers.

When Alex went to Australia I lost touch with him for a while until he invited me out to Victoria to front a programme he was producing on Ned Kelly’s last stand for ABC. This was a very fine piece of work, particularly with regard to the conclusions we were able to come to about the participants’ movements from the dispersal of the ordnance we excavated. It was a complete story which he told with commendable lucidity.

We’ve stayed in close touch ever since. I find him thoughtful, interesting, intelligent, and a hard worker. He has the ability to tell a difficult story well, and with flair and passion. Highly recommended!

Alex is an extremely experienced and talented film maker. He's worked successfully as an Executive Producer, Series Producer and Director across a wide variety of factual television. He's very collaborative to work with and would be an asset to any production he works on. I'd work with him again any time.

Dan Gold

I have worked with Alex on a number of productions, predominately historical documentaries. I have always found Alex to be intellectually curious, historically rigorous and always willing to put in the hard work to pursue excellence.

Alex has worked with CJZ on a number of major factual productions for Australian television, most recently Revolution School for ABC TV. He is a fine producer who can work at a very senior level. Alex manages teams effectively and has good oversight on budgets and schedules. Most importantly he has a strong editorial sense. I would be happy to discuss Alex's strengths in further detail.

David Wilson

During my time as a commissioning editor in Australia I worked with Alex on three important and challenging projects. In every case he delivered fantastic results, added a huge amount of value and flair to the original idea and was a real pleasure to work with. One of the very best producers currently working in the UK and Australia.

Phil Craig

I have had the great pleasure of working with Alex over the last 6 months in his capacity as Series Producer of a 2 x 1 hour blue chip history series. Alex is organised, capable and committed, and a good leader of the team. His background interest and knowledge in history has been an asset to the production.
