About Me
Paul is a brilliant creative who brings a huge amount to everything he works on. He is a great writer and can shape a strong narrative from the most challenging of projects and is a really accomplished director, working well with talent and in any environment. He is super collaborative and a really decent person so he is definitely someone I always jump at the opportunity to work with and can recommend him with huge confidence!
Paul is our go to SP for both history and wildlife series - on every scale. He is a gifted story teller, great manager of teams and projects and is a delight to work with.
Paul did a great job directing a big feature doc with A list talent. There were many different factors to the film that he brought together brilliantly.
Paul is that rare combination - he is brilliant editorially, a great manager of people and a really lovely bloke too. I worked with him on a complicated series that didn't really have enough money and therefore time, was made in Covid and so distantly, with him in one bit of the country whilst the team was shooting in another oh and it needed to be historically accurate and have jokes in it too. No small ask. Paul was fantastic - he supported the team whenever they needed him, wrote the scripts, liaised brilliantly with the presenter and co-exec, worked with 2 editors concurrently, wrote lots of great jokes and made a funny, accessible and historically accurate series as well. Paul is a total grown up - someone you can trust to get on with things but who will also know when to run something past you and who really understands how TV/content is made. I would not hesitate to work with him again and hopefully will be again soon.
Paul is a doer and Paul knows what quality looks like. The Wonders of the Monsoon is a BBC2 natural history landmark that delivered new animal behaviour, new perspectives and gorgeous immersion. It rated when first broadcast and still rates! Paul has a special blend of Science and Natural History specialist production knowledge (Ice Age Giants brought the two together). Paul's research is impeccable, he's a good listener and team player - and can be left to build a team and get on with it.
Paul is utterly fantastic to work with. Great storyteller, excellent director and pragmatic and sensible producer. He's handled really complicated shows for us, sometimes with tricky talent, with exceptional skill and care. The shows have stood out for their thoughtfulness and pure quality. I'd recommend him extremely highly.
Paul is an extremely experienced series producer who has proven his versatility across a wide range of BBC programmes from fast turn around popular series like The One Show and Animals Guide to Britain, to the high end blue chip series Monsoon, and innovative natural history/science hybrids like Secrets Of Our Living Planet and Ice Age Giants. He's a very good storyteller and writer who has brought editorial rigour to many BBC NHU productions. Paul is also an excellent team manager who cares about his teams and excels at bringing on new producers; he runs series very effectively with good attention to detail on all aspects of editorial, budget and schedule. I've always really enjoyed working with Paul and thoroughly recommend him.
