Read MoreAs a Script Editor on over eighty hours of television drama, I have had extensive experience working with writers, helping them prise out the narratives that lie restless in their imaginations.
By undertaking scripted development work for Evil Doghouse Studios, I provided extensive notes on a pilot script, character biographies and episode synopses; detailing considerations on character, structure, plot and dialogue. I have undertaken roles on UKTV’s ‘Annika’ and HBO/BBC’s ‘His Dark Materials’, and it is these experiences I look to build on as I make the transition into High End Television Drama production and development.
In all my roles, I analyse dramatic material. I report my own and producer feedback and communicate script meeting outcomes to writers clearly and succinctly by taking diligent, comprehensive and thorough notes. I make sure the writers’ views are heard and support them through the script writing process.
My love of finding writers has seen me Script Reading, seeking out potential participants with strong voices, craft and technique for the highly regarded BBC Studios’ Writers’ Academy. This built upon my experience as a New Talent Scout for BBC Writersroom North, where I reported on new writing in theatre and communicated feedback in engaging reports to the Producer.
My experience has been forged in the story factory of continuing drama, where I have worked on ‘Coronation Street’, ‘Casualty’ and ‘River City’. Most importantly having spent most of my career in Manchester, Cardiff and Glasgow I have a great knowledge of writing talent across the UK.
Other career Highlights include:
• My knowledge of both emerging and established writers has been proven with my hunter like ability to track down storytelling. This has been shown through attending the Edinburgh Fringe yearly, where over the last three years I have seen 67 plays.
• To help deepen my understanding of development I undertook a Channel 4 mentoring scheme, RISE, where a mentor from House Productions helped increase my insight of pitch documents, treatments and packages to help sell ideas.
• I redesigned the spec script submission systems for ‘Casualty’ and ‘River City’, which enabled me to record, read, rate and respond to submissions in a more efficient way. I identified new writing talent by reporting on scripts, acting as a creative filter to the Script Producer.
• I implemented an archive for ‘River City’ creating biographies for over twenty characters.
