I worked with Mark on an ambitious new unscripted format for Apple TV. The bar of quality was, as you would expect, incredibly high, despite the format requiring fast-paced, 'doc style' producing and filming. Mark came on as one of 3x self shooting producer/directors on the series and was absolutely fantastic from day one.
Mark is a real 'grown up' - he ran his own shooting team incredibly well and made my life as showrunner much easier by being very self sufficient. His editorial instincts were always on point, meaning I could rely on him to self-produce in pre-production and on location.
There was a lot of pressure on him on location - having to manage the shooting, sound and story/contributor producing at once. Despite the amount of roles he was required to juggle, his shooting was fantastic - his rushes not only met the high-bar Apple had set for the shows visuals, but Mark shot all the required B-Roll and components needed for the edit, whilst steering the contributors and getting the emotion/story elements we needed on camera.
Mark was an asset to the production and I wouldnt hesitate to work with him again.
Mark is a very experienced, talented, hard working shooting PD. He's worked with me on a number of productions and I can rely on him to cover the story or find the story in whatever the situation. He's filmed with extremely sick patients receiving life or death heart surgery and farmers watching their livestock and livelihoods being decimated by the weather. He's always sensitive to the person and the situation remaining friends with contributors well after the shoots are over. Contributors love working with him and he gets the best from them but always with the understanding of what's required for the programme. He always goes the extra mile.
