Karen is an A Star Edit Producer who quickly grasps the format and always sticks to schedule whilst juggling multi-edits, but is equally adept at leading from the front to set the tone, template and structure of a series. She was instrumental in helping to shape recently refreshed formats for two of the BBC's Escape brands, with viewing figures that reflect very positive audience appreciation. Creative, collaborative and always pleasant, Karen is a much-respected and cherished member of the team who works to a consistently high standard, producing original scripts and digging deep to find the heart and soul in any story, with sensitivity as well as comedy.

Emma Smith, Series Editor

Faced with sixty short form films and a tight delivery deadline, Karen immediately rolled up her sleeves and got stuck in. Her popular factual expertise proved invaluable when scripting films to explain in simple terms the complex and varied roles of all the health professionals that new parents might encounter. Karen took no time to grasp the brief and was even quicker at building our contributors' trust and confidence. When deadlines are especially tight, having someone who could deliver scripts that the BBC signed off swiftly gave me huge peace of mind and helped the production run smoothly. Karen was a safe pair of hands and we'd love to have her back.

I loved working with Karen. She’s a dynamo SP – fizzing with energy, good cheer and a blithe determination to roll up her sleeves and deal with every turn of the production wheel. As a team leader she doesn’t falter: she’s able to keep both team and contributors firing on all cylinders and is adaptable and flexible in the face of numerous demands. She’s also got great attention to detail and is a master of the devilishly complex schedule. She’s full of ideas, capable of running multiple edits and will keep pushing to ensure that creative promises are delivered. She’s also very funny, which makes for lots of laughing – always a bonus when the pressure is on. Sacha Baveystock, Executive Producer

Karen Richardson is the superwoman Series Producer that you want on your team. She is efficient, exuberant, creative and precise - all while charming the pants off everyone from punter to team and crew member with her genuine loveliness. She is passionate about the TV shows that she is making and will immerse herself fully into the subject she is portraying no matter what it is. She is dogged and diligent, even when the inevitable things fall down on a series. Karen knows what makes good TV, is very strong editorially and in the edit and gets the best from people on screen and off through a balance of persistence, determination and empathy. Karen is 100% reliable, authentic and good fun and I would be delighted to work with her again.

Karen is one of the best: I loved working with her. She goes above and beyond, and then above that again to deliver a great programme. As an edit producer, she pulled together a super-tricky 'first episode of a new series', bringing all her SP storytelling skills into the edit to create a programme which set the style for the rest of the series. She communicated clearly, got a clear handle on the rushes, wrote beautifully and did all the things that you want an edit producer to deliver. You know when you look at a member of the team and think 'thank God you're here'? She's that person.

I worked with Karen when she was the Series Producer on the debut series of The Great Pottery Throwdown for BBC Two. She displayed exemplary organisational skills, grappling with complex schedules and a large production team. She showed real clarity on the series editorial, with a rare ability to work out how stories should best play out for maximum drama and tension. Karen has the intelligence to grasp detailed technical content and translate this into accessible and exciting television. She worked brilliantly with the presenting and judging talent, inspiring trust and enthusiasm, and showed care and sensitivity with the contributors. She is an excellent communicator and has a positive and easy-going manner. It was a pleasure to work with her and I hope we work together again. Strongly recommended.
