I worked firstly as a Production Manager first for indies on weekly current affairs series and documentaries for Channel 4. I re-joined the BBC working on their flagship current affairs series Panorama again working on the main series and on one off specials. In this role I covered everything from managing the budget to booking crew and facilities, travel and accommodation along with any necessary permits. I would also book post-production facilities and monitor schedule to ensure delivery on time. I would then have to complete our inhouse production paperwork database for our rights department.
I then moved over to our in-house rights department initially working on drama titles i.e., Eastenders and one-off dramas. I would check all contracted talent to ensure the correct rights had been acquired and enter the rights information into our rights database. I would also renew rights for writers and talent and licences for 3rd party material. On moving across to BBC Studios, I worked in the Indie Clearance Team checking the submitted paperwork (Schedule of Residuals) for invested titles. Here I would ensure all rights acquired as per the Distribution Agreement were properly cleared for exploitation. This would involve me liaising a lot with the various indies to resolve any queries around this such as any talent pre-payments, 3rd party material cleared for all the relevant platforms, all talent information correct to allow for royalty payments further down the line etc. Once all checked and confirmed this could then be loaded into our royalty database.
I then switched from TV to radio joining the Commercial Team working mainly with our book publisher providing rights information on programmes of interest but also on any ad hoc requests for material. Here again I used various databases to collate information, liaised with production to make any initial requests on behalf of publishers. I maintained our financial tracker so would be responsible for ensuring all invoices were raised and sent out at correct times and chase up any late payments.
Most recently I worked for Banijay Rights in their Rights Out team entering distribution agreements into their rights database. Also, going through sales reports checking them against the rights database to recode any rights not coded correctly.
All of these roles required tremendous attention to detail and the ability to read paperwork and understand what was not clear/right and query where relevant so that the most complete and correct information was entered for sales teams to use. I had a lot of communication with people at all levels both internally and externally wherever I worked and was competent at doing this both verbally and in writing. I use Word, Excel, Outlook on a daily basis. Can also use PowerPoint and a variety of databases which I have had to learn to use quickly as I moved around.
