Award winning natural history television producer with 11 years BBC Natural History Unit experience, and 19 years in TV and filmI am a passionate filmmaker with a love of natural history. I have a degree is Zoology from Oxford and a PhD in evolutionary biology. I joined the BBC Natural History Unit as a researcher on David Attenborough’s State of the Planet and have an in-depth knowledge of environmental issues.I have been a keen photographer for over 30 years, and love shooting as well as directing. I 2015 I was fortunate to film the world’s largest dinosaur coming out of the ground in Patagonia for BBC1’s Attenborough and the Giant Dinosaur. As a producer and director, I offer:
• Creativity – I have a strong visual style, and always strive to reinvent ways of seeing the natural world.
• Experience – I have nearly 20 years experience in TV and films, from high-end Blue Chip productions (Wild China / Planet Earth) to fast turn-around (Timeshift) to investigative journalism (Ape Hunter) to Magazine formats (Big Blue UK) to CGI heavy docs (Nile) to drama (Exec Producer of BBC Film Lab). My experience gives me versatility.
• Editorial strength – I combine in-depth scientific knowledge with broad programme-making experience and a love story-telling to deliver engaging films.
• Technical ability – As a self-shooter I stay well informed of new technology, with a good understanding of how to maximize its potential on screen. I taught myself to self-shoot and edit (FCP & Premiere Pro) which has strengthened my abilities as a director.
• Communication – I write all my own scripts for TV and film, and have had my short films used by a University in California to teach film structure.
• Team player – I love working in teams and thrive on collaboration.
• Reliability – I am an organized producer who delivers on time and on budget. From logistically complex productions like Wild China to low budget, fast turnaround programmes, I understand the needs of each production and adapt accordingly.
