I’ve had the opportunity to work across a range of television productions and formats, including: Observational Documentary series, Factual Entertainment, Kid’s Entertainment, Live Sports, On-Air Promos and In-House Studio Entertainment productions. I now have a varied number of Production and Editorial credits to my name. After graduating from Bournemouth University in 2012 with a BA and MA Degree in Digital Film and Television Production, I‘ve worked tirelessly with both industry-leading and independent production companies. Starting as a Runner on shows such as Waterloo Road and Misfits, I quickly climbed the Production ladder from Runner, to Production Assistant, Production Coordinator and most recently Production Manager at BBC Creative. As I climbed the production ladder and one job led onto another, I came to realise I wanted more out of working in television. I enjoyed working in production and learned a lot about making television, however, ultimately, I wasn't getting the job satisfaction I desired. It was at this time I started to focus my time and energy into the editorial side of television. When working in production, I only ever had the chance to plan and logistically assist on shoots, whereas I wanted to attend the shoots and develop the content being filmed. Ultimately, I wanted to be part of the team that brings the content to the screen, not just the person who helps facilitate the shoots. The reason I studied and showed a passion for the creative arts in the first place was to film content I felt enthusiastic about, and I wasn't getting that opportunity working in production. The experience and skills I developed working in production will, and have, held me in good-stead when working on the editorial side. Now when I research story ideas or think about pitching to the Execs, I also think logistically about the shoots. For example, can we film this story with the time and budget the production allows? How long do we have in this location before we must move on? How long are our shoots days? Are we using external crew and fixers who do not know the immediate team? How old are the contributors and legally how long do we have with them until we must break or release them? These types of questions, that are now embedded in my thoughts when I plan shoots, are really useful to have because early-on you have a good idea what’s feasible to shoot and what’s not. IMy creative interests and hobbies include: reading fiction and non-fiction novels and news articles, writing short stories and screenplays, filming content for my YouTube channel, and developing feature film ideas. I am currently working on my first feature, working as the Writer, Producer and Director, with the plan to take the finished film into the film festival circuit in 2019.
