Iain has been an invaluable part of our team for the past 18 months- and has produced some of the most visually compelling films of the series. He's a real asset to any team- his attention to detail and his creativity are sure to brighten any programme he works on. We miss him- and would gladly have him back on the team when he's next free...
Iain made a number of current affairs films for me for The One Show. He has got a great eye, top camera skills and handled complicated shoots professionally and skillfully. He was good with contributors, hard working and handled the edit with skill. I would have no hesitation to use him again.
Iain’s great to work with – his diligence, attention to detail and thorough approach are hard to find in lots of filmmakers. As one of the core filmmaking team on Rip Off Britain, it was great to know I could trust Iain to more than deliver the goods, despite a long and demanding schedule that can feel relentless and exhausting.
He has a lot of creative ideas – something that’s invaluable with a series that spends a most of its time telling retrospective stories. Many of those stories are also potentially contentious or litigious, and Iain is adept at navigating the potential problems that poses with a quiet confidence and minimal fuss.
I’ve lost count of the number of films Iain made for the series but it must be over a hundred – and in all that time his high standards never slipped.
All our films are cut by edit producers - and when a shooting director is forced to hand their material over to someone else to cut it, the flaws in what they have (or haven’t) shot become apparent very quickly. In all the time he worked on the series I can’t think of an occasion where the edit wasn’t happy with what Iain delivered. Not only does he shoot beautifully, but he makes sure the edit isn’t boxed into a corner with the material he’s shot, and he’ll work longer and harder than many others to make sure he delivers something he can be proud of every time.
Iain did a great job on King Fishers, from finding good characters in the casting stage, through to setting up a very challenging shoot, and dealing with very difficult contributors on an intense and tough filming trip. Throughout he was a good team player, self-motivated and a hard working.
I've worked with Iain twice. First in 2010 on the legally-testing BBC series, Filthy Rotten Scoundrels. He was in constant contact with third parties such as The Environment Agency, local council and police forces all over the UK - and his meticulous approach to fact-checking meant that I was able to sign off our programmes with confidence, knowing that they were accurate and that our compliance issues had been covered. During 2011/12 I was keen to bring Iain aboard my production team on Doorstep Crime 999, knowing that he would bring the same attention to detail in liaising with various law enforcement agencies. He set up numerous strong stories all over the UK and he grasped every opportunity to go self-shooting. I would happily work with him again.
