My focus is always for the audience to experience the full force of the story; to really feel they’re inside the story with us.
I work across many factual genres, from ‘Paul O’Gradys Little Heroes’, an Obs Doc following sick children’s journeys at Great Ormond Street Hospital, to ‘The Rap Game’ Popular factual for BBC 1, and in the past a great deal of Big Brother, TOWIE & Made in Chelsea. I even made a Live documentary ‘A&E Live’ to celebrate 50 years of the NHS! I would say my heart really belongs in documentary, and I pursue this outside of work, in my own personal projects. But I like to make fun and engaging programmes, whatever depth they are designed to go into,a dn even in a reality show space I deliver thoughtful content with meaning & emotion, showing the very best of the contributors in a relatable, moving and entertaining way. I am well versed in switching between the different tones that the different channels and networks expect.
I am currently a Exec’ing a 4 part series with the incredible Katherine Ryan; you might call it a Funny Factual hybrid! Its ob doc in access and style, with a fact ent backbone and purpose, a LOT of Comedy and a touch of reality! We're visiting families around the UK to learn about out of the box thinking on parenting, but its all underpinned by her real life and the issues her family are facing.
Last year I worked with Amy Dellmeyer to take her brilliant idea for a Dating show 'Sex in the Dark', from development into a full working pilot for US Streamer Peacock - and its now right on the brink of commission. A fairly simple job to execute, with a weeks shoot in a hotel with 9 cast, and manning a single suite edit myself to deliever 1 full 44 min, glossy, TX-able episode for consideration for greenlight. Before that I had exec'ed Series 1 of the new Fact / Ent Adventure series ’Loaded in Paradise’ for ITV2. Much more complicated, I wrote all 15 episodes and all 16 of the casts’ Master interviews, and ran a team of 70 people on the ground in Greece for a 30 day shoot. I took this through to the edit, and had around 20 people working in 8 suites most weeks, plus re focussing episodes in the edit myself, shaping with VO and being over the Finish. That series has also been reccommissioned!
In my spare time I am editing my self shot Feature Doc ‘The Tree of Desires’ - 4 interlinking families’ stories in Cuba, all starting on the night of the 500th Birthday of the city of Havana and a ceremony where people make their wishes for the year… not knowing this year in particular would uproot everything they knew about their own lives and country. I moved to Cuba for 7 months and learnt Spanish to make this film and made a short film 'Whisky and Goldfish' which won 4th place at the LA & Amsterdam Liftoff Film Festivals.
I am trusted to deliver, and will do everything to keep the series on track - editorially and practically. I am also known for creating an environment where staff thrive and want to return. I have a background in running large teams and a lot of experience in fast turnaround environments. Which means even on a short timescale I am able to get the team working efficiently and fast to get the job done to a great standard.
