A highly-trained Shooting Producer/Director with extensive professional experience gained over twenty years in the television industry. My specialism is shooting observational documentaries, wildlife programming and format entertainment. I have my HSC level four, and can shoot underwater footage. I have excellent underwater photography skills and was awarded British Underwater Photographer of the year 2024 - I have a passion for photographing and filming animals and wildlife.
I have produced and shot on many animal centred programmes and content for a variety of broadcasters such as: Animal Planet (Crikey It’s the Irwins), BBC (Countryfile), Channel 5 (Animal Maternity) and for online (Made in the Wild). I have vast experience setting up foreign shoots and liaising with experts. I have organised shoots in the wild, in zoos and in wildlife sanctuaries around the world.
Over the years I have adapted in a fast moving environment, thus enabling me to handle ever evolving equipment. I use broadcast video cameras (FS6/7 etc) SLRs for stills (Canon 5D Mark IV) and drones (Mavic Pro). I can rough cut in the edit. I operate my own sound on shoots using radio mics. I am familiar with ingesting rushes post shoot and can navigate other data management. I have edit produced on several productions.
Health and safety on shoots has a vital importance and is a major focus of my work. I am qualified to HSC level 4 allowing me to film underwater professionally in the UK. I have worked as a safety and stunt diver in domestic television and Hollywood film. I have over fifty credits on broadcast television and film.
I'm involved in all stages of production; from conception, development, budgeting, storyboarding, scripting, planning shoots, gaining signoff, filming, conducting interviews, right through to the final edit. I have researched, sourced contributors, recced, produced and filmed these stories on each production. In addition, I have a proven track record of building excellent relationships with contributors as filming four seasons of emergency situations for Ambulance Australia (BBC) has developed my skills of quickly gaining peoples’ trust.
In my personal work as an award winning wildlife photographer, I have honed my technical skills in visual story-telling. Using a variety of cameras, and my own unique creative methods I have achieved awards in high-profile competitions, including European Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Underwater Photographer of the Year, and Wildlife Photographer of the Year. My animal images have also featured in National Geographic, on the BBC, in UNESCO advertising, in magazines and on billboards (to name just a few locations). To gain this portfolio I have travelled the world solo, organised location schedules with local people, negotiated budgets and solved problems when they arose. Not to mention swam with sharks and crocodiles in the wild! I have held my own photographic exhibitions in Sydney and England.
Originally born in the UK I moved to Australia for seven years to gain my dual citizenship, I am comfortable in the heat!
