MARK is an award winning documentary and feature film director with many year’s experience making films in many different genres for cinema, broadcast, corporate, charity and commercial. Mark’s skills include directing for documentary and drama – treatment and script writing, working with actors, actuality self-shooting, lighting, conducting interviews: All aspects of post-production including editing, picture mastering, grading, audio mixing, rights clearances of archive stills, film and music and quality control of deliverables. Having founded and run his own production companies, Mark is highly adept at navigating the complexities of liaising with execs and the requirements of major broadcasters. In addition, Mark has worked with a very wide range of world renowned artistic figures and celebrities in the worlds of music, dance, art, film and television. Mark is highly organised and his wealth of experience and natural artistic curiosity enable him to communicate easily with figures from all walks of life, talent and fame.
MARK studied fine art Goldsmiths College birthplace of famed ‘YBA’S’ (Young British Artists) like Damien Hirst and Sarah Lucas, and more recently the Oscar winning artist turned film maker Steve McQueen. Mark went on to study film production at the prestigious Film School of the Royal College of Art where former students included Ridley Scott and his brother the late Tony Scott. Mark went on to direct a number of influential films for television, including the controversial and influential FREEZE for BBC1 - the first television documentary on DAMIEN HIRST and the emerging ‘YBAS’. Mark made many more films on all aspects of the arts including films on pop musicians DAVE STEWART, PHIL COLLINS, BRYAN FERRY & POP ARTIST RICHARD HAMILTON, DESIGNER OF THE MINI ALEC ISSIGONIS, LEGENDRY DANCE CHOREOGRAPHER TRISHA BROWN for the BBC and Channel 4. Mark took on the disturbing subject of a teenage vampire cult in KENTUCKY TEENAGE VAMPIRES for FIVE, The Story of Rod Ferrell, a self-confessed vampire who killed his ex-girlfriends parents and is now on Florida’s death row. This inspired a stylish art-house horror feature film that picked up 4 awards at the Milan International Film Festival 2008, including Best Film, Best Editing, Best Actress, Best Cinematography. In 2010 Mark completed A BIPOLAR EXPEDITION, a feature documentary for More 4’s True Stories that follows a Midland’s businessman to a fantasy castle in Jamaica as part of a bizzare quest to find a wife from a group of 12 Ukranian women who join him there. Also in 2010 Mark completed DANCE DANCE DANCE 3D for Sky Arts – a spectacular 60min dance showcase that went on to win the International 3D Society Award for Entertainment and Music at Mann’s Chinese Theatre Hollywood. Mark recently completed the feature documentary STUDIO 17: THE LOST REGGAE TAPES about a unique studio at the heart of Jamaica’s music revolution in the 1960’s & 70’s. It premiered on BBC 4 and was selected for both the Nashville Film Festival 2019 and the Pan African Film Festival 2020 and many others since - including a cinema tour in the UK and Canada in 2022.
