Rebecca did a fantastic job for us in very difficult circumstances. The gig was 12 weeks on board a Royal Navy Warship at sea in the Med and Middle East. Two weeks before we set sail the Royal Navy swapped our production to a different warship. All of our research notes, casting, pre-deployment filming etc was trashed over night. It meant Rebecca, along with one other PD and an AP, had to cast from scratch while at the same time negotiating and gaining the trust of a new crew (who had no idea they were being filmed until they came aboard and set sail). Rebecca found and began filming her first story 45 minutes into the ship leaving port and managed to spot one of our major characters while doing it. She had a great rapport with the crew and had to deal with 17 year old raw recruits to world weary seen it all before 40 plus time servers and won them over and worked with them brilliantly. She shot some of the major story-lines for the series which included specialist factual staples (like how the sewage system functioned on ship) to more traditional obs-doc fare and more emotional, character based stories (people missing home, soldiers talking about combat experience etc). Needless to say, we were all really impressed with her and all of that team. Production restrictions meant we couldn't keep any of our PDs on board for the edit but had that not been the case I would have loved to have given her the opportunity to see the project through to the end.
