I worked with Ed on Critical Condition. He was one of only two PDs and co-shot the entire series of 4X60, often working in extremely difficult and distressing situations. His dealings with contributors was always exemplary and he remained calm and personable throughout. He should receive great credit for the distinctive shallow depth-of-field look of the series. This was achieved by shooting entirely on prime lenses. He was always fully engaged and totally committed to making the series as good as it could be. He also edited the first episode.
Ed is one of few PDs I know who can shoot better than a lot of specialist camera operators. He is a particular master of lit interviews and using the 'eye direct'. His skills helped give our high volume series, 13 x 1 hour The World's Deadliest Weather, the polished and crafted look that belied the real budget and schedule. He is also unrelenting in his pursuit of a good story which enabled us to get incredible behind the headlines access on some major world weather disaster stories.
