Arwen Gunter is a graduate of the WA Screen Academy, Edith Cowan University, having completed a Masters of Professional Communications (Screen Studies) in 2013. An elite and intensive course, it was ranked #2 in the world by Reelshow MAG - Student Filmmakers Online Magazine.

Arwen’s areas of specialisations are Cinematography and Editing. She was cinematographer on the adult drama Post Break Up, winner of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) Award for Best Actor - Male for third year Acting student James Sweeny at the 2013 Gala Screening of THE ACADEMY FILMS, Luna Cinema, Perth. The film was also selected to screen in the Favourites section of the 2014 Revelation Perth International Film Festival.

She was cinematographer on the suspense thriller Profile and the children’s comedy Rite To Write which was a Finalist Best Short Drama at the 2014 Armadale International FilmFest (AIFF) Rite to Write was hailed by The West Australian newspaper’s leading film critic, Mark Naglazas, as “A loopy fantasy”¦tight classical structure that allowed character and theme to merge”. Arwen was also director of photography on three episodes of the studio multicam web series Detour.

Her documentary credits include cinematographer for The Balloon Man, Winner Best Short Documentary AIFF and nominated Best Documentary - Short Form at the 2014 WA Screen Awards, The Truth About the Monkeys, Winner Best Film at the national Women's Short Film Competition in Sydney and edited The World on Wheels, Highly Commended Nine Network Award for Best Documentary at the Friends of the Academy Film Night.

She also filmed the TVC Under Graduate Broadcasting for Edith Cowan University, screened on commercial station, Channel 7 Perth. All of the above productions were broadcast as part THE ACADEMY FILM - Series 1 on WTV Perth, Channel 31 Melbourne, Digital31 Brisbane and 44 Adelaide.

Arwen edited coming-of-age drama Broken, Winner Best Tertiary Student Film in the 2014 WA Screen Awards and the music video Keeping You Happy for Boom! Bap! Pow! which she also filmed and was Highly Commended - Best Client-Based Production at the 2013 Friends of the Academy Film Night.

Arwen online-edited the musical How to Beat a Spell and co-wrote and filmed Luca & Lola, both commissioned by the City of Perth and shown at Piazza Pics outdoor screen in Northbridge, March 2014. She also directed and co-wrote the TVC A Friend’s Gift, to be incorporated in Australia's DonateLife's education campaign in 2015.

She has performed a variety of other roles including first assistant director on the short drama One Player, Winner at the Action on Film California International Film Festival and screened at Revelation Perth International Film Festival, 2014 and opening episode of THE ACADEMY FILMS - Series 1 . She also worked as focus puller for feature cinematographer Denson Baker (The Black Ballooon, The Waiting City, The Turning) on the crime prevention film Everyone Pays and assistant camera for cinematographer Tristan Milani (The Boys, The Bank, Balibo) on the feature Paper Planes. More recently, she worked on Britain's Got Talent assisting a variety of personnel.

Arwen’s technical expertise is impressive. She has a thorough knowledge of camera and lighting techniques as well as colour grading and editing. She is an effective problem solver, is highly motivated, talented and most of all, displays strong skills as a cinematographer. She is hard working, personable, and a great creative collaborator. I have no hesitation in recommending Arwen for cinematography and editing positions and wish her every success.
