I find that the subject matter of the shoots I work on is endlessly fascinating, every day brings new challenges and I look forward to meeting those challenges with energy and enthusiasm.Documentary film makers are in a unique and privileged position, we often gain unprecedented access into our contributor’s lives, and those people will open up to a crew with a camera in a way that would not normally be possible for any other profession. We often deal with sensitive subjects and vulnerable people, and require considerable sensitivity in dealing with them. This is especially true of the sound recordist – as a general rule, 30 seconds after I meet a contributor I’m fitting them with a radiomic. I have to know how to put complete strangers at ease, to break down barriers and build confidence very quickly. I am grateful every day for the opportunity to be a part of a strangers life, and I never forget how lucky I am to have that privilege
