TV has always been my number one passion and I've always wanted to work in it. I love reading and studying about the history of the industry and have a major obsession with old TV shows such as Blake’s 7, Dad’s Army and Classic Doctor Who. With this in mind I have been very lucky to have been able to spend the past eight years working on the BBC Quiz Show Pointless Celebrities. Having started out as a Runner I have recently finished working as the Celebrity Assistant Producer. Working on this show has allowed me to fully utilise my interest and knowledge of vintage television and pop culture. Guests I have been particularly proud of booking include; Sam Allardyce, Baga Chipz, Little & Large, Måns Zelmerlöw, Cathy Dennis, Charlie from Casualty, Adric from Doctor Who and the Politician Martin Bell.
Another key element of my career has been building good relationships up with contributors. This is something that I think is extremely important and can often be over-looked in the rush to meet tight deadlines. Over the years I have worked as a Contestant Researcher/ AP on Pointless, Casting Researcher/ AP on Come Dine With Me and Welfare Researcher on the BBC adventure series Prized Apart. Throughout all of these jobs I have upheld a professional exterior to contributors but also made sure they were at ease and had fun! Contributors should be made to feel important and valued and depending on the show their experience should be as fun as possible, after all If they don’t enjoy themselves what is the point in them taking part?
One role I have been particularly proud of over the years which also highlights the confident nature of my personality has been as Researcher and then AP on the Audience Team on Big Brother’s Bit On The Side. I carried this role out for five years and enjoyed every moment of it. The role originally was seen as just getting bums on seats but I thought it was a great opportunity to do Warm-Up and decided to fully embrace my inner Red Coat. This has led to me doing Warm-Up on Pointless in front of audiences of 200 people where I would introduce guests, sing songs and tell jokes.
I love working in entertainment but outside of that I love current-affairs and think it is sad that I have somehow been pigeon-holed in my career. I love reading political biographies, always have Newsnight and Sky News on and regularly attend public debates on subjects ranging from Brexit to the collapse of Rome. I have an enquiring mind and I do feel that the people-skills I have picked up in entertainment would be well suited in factual as well. As well as this I also enjoy coming up with my own formats in my spare-time and even set-up my own ideas factory a few years back as well as writing my own sitcom. Unfortunately for Britain the heads of the BBC and Channel 4 weren’t ready for Ladies that Lunch or Celebrity Pluck A Duck but I do live in hope.
So to summarise: I have an extensive knowledge of vintage TV and politics, I can shoot and edit casting tapes, run casting teams, look after and brief contributors in the studio, book celebrities, warm audiences up, develop my own TV formats and produce treatments, write detailed biogs, have done welfare on location in Africa, looked after 40 randy singletons on a Mediterranean cruise and can work in both entertainment and factual.
